Troubleshooting: Fixing Errors and other various issues

Getting Started

Oculus Rift Development Kit 2, or DK2, comes with various pieces that work together to make the headset function properly. Before we can talk about these pieces, though, you will need to install some software. Go to https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/, choose the appropriate platform for whatever you are using, and choose version 0.4.0-beta. Then install the SDK and Runtime software. You do not need to install the Engine Integration unless you are planning on developing with it. As for the hardware, the first thing you'll notice is the headset itself. The headset has a long cable running from it that splits into and HDMI cable and a USB cable. You will want to plug these into your computer. At the point in the cable where it splits into two, there is a little box. This is the Cable connector box. It has a port for a small cable with a circular head. You will need to plug in the Sync cable that fits the hole into the Cable connector box. Another piece in DK2 is the Positional Tracker. The Positional Tracker should be mounted on top of your computer's monitor for best results. The Sync cable you plugged into the Cable connector box should also be plugged into the Positional Tracker. Finally, there is a USB cable in the DK2 box and one end of that should plug into the Positional Tracker while the other end should plug into your computer. What is the Oculus Rift?

The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality device used mainly to play video games. Its goal is to make you feel like you are in the game world itself. Although graphics aren't quite good enough yet to make a game look 100% real, the Oculus does its part as best as anything could. It takes your favorite game and displays it on two tiny monitors that are rounded to help your eyes. The straps wrap around your head and suddenly the monitors don't look so tiny. The world you have familiarized yourself with over the hours and days spent glued to your computer, is now surrounding you. As you walk up to characters and speak to them in person, you will feel the undeniable truth: the future is now.

We currently only have one Oculus, so you will have to move fast if you want to use it!
