Best Practices for LibGuide Design

Why Redesign Guides?

LibGuides is a tool that helps students find and navigate library resources. It is important to present information in a clear, concise, and accessible manner. When creating and editing LibGuides, the following should be taken into consideration:

  • Mobile Functionality
  • Accessibility
  • Equity and Inclusivity
  • Standardization/Consistency

LibGuide Style Recommendation

Wilson Library Faculty Librarians selected side navigation guides as our template for the following reasons:

  • Mobile Friendly: The side navigation displays better in a mobile environment than the traditional top navigation.
  • Cleaner, more modern look
  • Visibility: The side navigation is organized in a stacked manner, making it easier to read. The top navigation tends to look crowded when too many tabs are added.
