Embed Streaming Videos in Blackboard Learn

Not all videos can be embedded in Blackboard Learn

Some embed codes are not compatible with Blackboard. If you are unable to embed a video in Blackboard, you can provide a link to the video instead.

  • Currently, videos from Films on Demand can Kanopy be embedded in Blackboard. 
  • Videos from Alexander Street can not be embedded. Link to videos instead.

Most video databases have a LINK or SHARE option, which provides a link that you can copy and paste to embed a Video. 

In Blackboard Ultra, link to videos. Library videos cannot be embedded.

Embed a Video in Blackboard Learn - Steps

These steps should be used for adding videos to your Blackboard courses.*  NOTE: Steps 4-6 are crucial for films to embed correctly!

*Not all streaming video databases are compatible with Blackboard. If you are unable to embed the video in Blackboard, you can still follow the instructions above (How to link link to streaming videos) to link to the video.

1.  Enter the course in which you want to embed the film.

2.  In the left hand menu, select the Content Area in which you want to add the film.

3.  Click on "Build Content," click on "Item."

4. Under Content Information:

      a. add a Name for the link

      b. click the HTML button in the toolbar  **Important step!**

5. The HTML window will pop-up. Paste the video embed code here. Then click "Update".

6.  The HTML window will close.  You should see a yellow box in the Text box.  This is your video. 

7.  Click "Submit"

8.  Video will appear in your Blackboard content area.  Click play to test.

      a. add a Name for the link

5. The HTML window will pop-up. Paste the video embed code here. Then click "Update".

6.  The HTML window will close.  You should see a yellow box in the Text box.  This is your video. 

7.  Click "Submit"


8.  Video will appear in your Blackboard content area.  Click play to test.
