Academic Coaching Referral

When making a referral for Academic Coaching, please fill out the Academic Coaching Referral Form as completely as possible. The more information you provide, the more likely we will pair the student with a suitable Academic Coach.

When submitting your referral, the ASC reaches out to the student typically within 2-3 days of receipt. In that initial email that is sent, students are given an overview of what Academic Coaching is, introduction to their assigned Academic Coach, and instructions for scheduling an appointment. They are also provided links to academic resources that may assist them, including tutoring options and the link to the ASC Portal.

Students are also provided an optional scheduling link to meet with the ASC Director to discuss their needs, challenges, etc. so they can then be connected with appropriate supports. They can simply schedule with their assigned coach, or they can choose to meet with the Director first; the aim of this is to really gain rapport with the student, explain what supports are available, and have a conversation so the student can be directed to the most suitable services offered by the ASC.

The outreach cycle for referrals is 5 weeks beyond the date of the initial email that is sent to the student. Outreach includes follow-up emails and phone calls.

Tutoring Referral

If you know of a student who could benefit from Tutoring support, please reach out to our Associate Director, Briana Smith, who oversees Tutoring services within the ASC.

Briana Smith / bsmith3@laverne.edu / 909.448.4611

Please note that many tutoring options exist within the ASC

  • In-Person appointments
  • Online synchronous appointments
  • E-Tutoring appointments (asynchronous writing appointments)
  • Group appointments
  • 24/7 Tutoring (online tutoring services provided by a contracted service)

When reaching out, please provide as much information about the student, their challenges they are having, and what modality might work best for them. The more information we have, the better the connection we can make to an appropriate tutoring option.

The ASC subject tutors vary by semester, but typically we always support Writing, Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, Computer Science, Business, Accounting, Economics, and Languages.
